The Phoenicia Malta has joined The Leading Hotels of the World, heralding a new era for this much-loved grand hotel located in the old-town heart of Malta’s capital Valletta, the hotel said in a statement today. A recent addition to the Campbell Gray Hotels portfolio, The Phoenicia is currently closed for restoration and will reopen in Spring 2016 following significant investment.

The Leading Hotels of the World, a collection of uncommon luxury hotels, only accept the world’s most exclusive independent hotels. The addition of The Phoenicia Malta, before the unveiling of the completed renovations, is testament to Gordon Campbell Gray’s expertise in hotel design and his uncompromising high standards.

With The Phoenicia Malta’s architectural beauty widely considered one of the sights of Malta, the re-launch will be sympathetic to the hotel’s heritage with the design by Peter Young Design and Mary Fox Linton. Upon reopening, the hotel will boasta complete refurbishment and upgrading of all 136 elegantly appointed guest rooms, many with stunningsea views, a new outdoor infinity pooloverlooking the harbour, and a re-landscaping of the hotel’s grounds and terraces. The Grand Ballroom will also be refurbished and Hotel Phoenicia Malta’s classic façade will be restored.

A new Health Club and Spa offering eight treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art gymnasium and an indoor swimming pool will open in October 2016.

"The characteristic Maltese architecture of The Phoenicia Malta immediately grounds it in its richly historic destination, and stands in contrast to the massive baroque bastion walls surrounding Valletta,” said DenizOmurgonulsen, Vice President, Membership, The Leading Hotels of the World. “It is these distinctive characteristics and more that make the hotel a perfect fit in our collection of uncommon luxury hotels.”
