The heavily intoxicated 23-year old Kazakh who admitted to attacking 6 people with a 20cm knife yesterday has been handed down a suspended sentence and a fine.

Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech this morning handed Aibek Manapov a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for 3 years. He was also fined €116.

Aibek Manapov was brought before Magistrate Frendo Dimech yesterday, when he was charged with slightly injuring a woman, attacking 6 people and disturbing the peace. He was also charged carrying a blade in public without the required permits.

Mr Manapov had been in Malta studying English as a foreign language since October 2015. The court heard that Mr Manapov would be returning back to Kazakhstan at the earliest opportunity.

Inspector Jonathan Ransley prosecuted, with Dr Joseph Mizzi representing the accused. Dr Mizzi entered into a guilty plea on behalf of the accused. He also said that Mr Manapov had apologised to the victims.
