A MaltaPost plaque commemorating the 1945 Yalta Conference and 1989 Bush ‐Gorbachev Summit was unveiled this morning by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat at the Upper Barrakka in Valletta.

MaltaPost has launched a number of commemorative stamps to mark the occasion.

The 1945 Yalta Conference was held after an initial meeting in Malta attended by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and American President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The 1989 Bush‐Gorbachev Summit took place in December 1989 onboard the Soviet cruise ship Maxim Gorky, anchored in Marsaxlokk Bay.

It was exactly fifty years after the Yalta Conference, credited by many historians as laying the foundations for the end of the Cold War.
