Power and gas project at Delimara at an advanced stage, to be completed ahead of second deadline

The Ministry for Health and Energy clarified that the Malta gas and power project is progressing at a rapid pace. Advanced works are being carried out on power plant development and gas infrastructure leading to estimations that it is to be completed ahead of schedule in May. This will enable final testing and commissioning processes.

As from this coming summer, clean energy from Gas will be generated in Delimara. This will result in a reduction of over 50% of the country's emissions and a 90% reduction in particulate matter.

Enemalta is now undertaking a competitive process for decommissioning the 150m Delimara Chimney and the Delimara 1 Heavy Fuel Oil plant.

The power station was initially set to be completed by March 2015, as promised in the Labour Party election manifesto. But this promised was not fulfilled and the Labour government set itself another deadline, June 2016.
