Glenn Bedingfield set to contest 2nd electoral district; direct clash with Joe Mizzi, Helena Dalli

Glenn Bedingfield is set to contest the second electoral district in the coming election, if he is asked to do so, the former MEP confirmed to The Malta Independent.

Bedingfield, a former journalist and now a presenter of a satirical political show on One Radio while also being paid as an adviser to the Prime Minister in the OPM, told this newspaper that he will do whatever is needed where the Labour Party is concerned.

The district Mr Bedingfield is set to be asked to contest heavily pro-Labour, so much so that the party has regularly won that district 4-1.

He had replaced Joseph Muscat in the European Parliament for a few months after Muscat gave up his position when he was elected party leader.

The second district is also contested by a number of Labour heavyweights, including Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. Mr Bedingfield’s position as adviser to OPM gives him a good advantage in his campaign if he had to contest.

Minister Joe Mizzi was also elected from this district in the last election, followed by Helena Dalli and Stefan Buontempo. Chris Agius was elected in a casual election after the PM gave up this district.

Mr Bedingfield has been in the news recently for taking to blogging whole serving as adviser to the PM, with blogs attacking the Opposition uploaded during office hours. The Prime Minister has defended this, saying that no permission was needed.

Norman Vella had broken the news on his blog.
