The Malta Independent applies for current affairs programme on TVM

Sunday, 28 February 2016, 11:00 Last update: about 9 years ago

Standard Publications Ltd, home of The Malta Independent Online, Daily and Sunday newspapers and The Malta Business Weekly has again applied with the Public Broadcasting Services to produce a weekly current affairs programme to be aired on TVM.

This is the third time Standard Publications has applied to produce such a programme engaging the services of its investigative newsroom and its trained and well known TV presenters to anchor the show. The first time Standard Publications Ltd applied was in 2014 but the application was rejected by the Editorial Board at PBS.

In the meantime, Times of Malta and MaltaToday both had their respective programmes selected. In 2015 Standard Publications Ltd applied through a production house that has been producing for TVM for the past twelve years, yet the programme was again discarded.

“In depth aims at being different to the current affairs programmes already airing on TVM,” says Pierre Portelli, Director of Content at Standard Publications and former current affairs co-producer/presenter of TVAM till June 2013. “We can offer the national station the services of yet another newsroom, enriching the content on TVM along with that of Reporter produced by MaltaToday, TimesTalk produced by The Times of Malta and Dissett produced by TVM’s Head of News Reno Bugeja,” explained Mr Portelli.

The bidding process for TVM’s next season will close tomorrow followed by an evaluation period by the Editorial Board. The final schedule will be announced in September.
