Nationalist Party deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami this morning filed a libel suit against the Labour Party media, the PN said in a statement.

The suit was filed after the Labour media published slanderous and untrue allegations on One station over the past two days, repeating lies that were made 10 years ago.

Dr Fenech Adami denies what was said in the One reports and copied by other media (not The Malta Independent).

He said that it is an outright lie to report that he converted two rooms into what is being described by Labour media as Palazz Beppe Fenech Adami. He said that he bought the property 22 years ago and 14 years before he became an MP. The property was resided in by a family for many years before he bought it. Once again, the media run by Joseph Muscat and Keith Schembri are lying, the PN said.

The house was bought via a bank loan that is still being paid. It is a lie to say that Beppe Fenech Adami has land adjacent to the house that can be developed.

It is also a lie, Dr Fenech Adami contended, that he was given preferential treatment. Anyone living in the area has the same rights as he has, he said.

It is also a lie that he had increased the height of the property by three floors. He was given permission to built one extra storey, as anybody with property nearby could.

It is also a lie to say that Dr Fenech Adami was given preferential treatment by former Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and former Minister George Pullicino. The letter shown by the Labour media says that other residents were given the same opportunity.

The stories fabricated this week by One are a recycling of stories carried by Kullhadd (PL newspaper) and Super One in May 2006. That time they were denied as they were being denied today, the PN said.

Dr Fenech Adami said that this intimidation will not stop him from speaking out about the scandal surrounding Minister Konrad Mizzi and OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri, who admitted to opening a secret company in Panama.
