Yesterday, the Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds Ian Borg delivered an informative session to students of the Institute for European studies at Sir Temi Zammit Hall on the role and dynamics of the EU Presidency of the Council of the EU on the occasion of the launch of a call for applications for liaison officers during Malta’s term.
Ian Borg said that the EU Presidency offers an opportunity for each member state—regardless of size and membership duration—to influence the EU’s agenda. In its role as chair of the Presidency, Malta will be organising and chairing over 200 meetings in Malta and Gozo during the first semester of 2017.
In this context, the Parliamentary Secretariat for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds invited university students to act as liaison officers within the logistical and media teams of the EU Presidency 2017. “Students are encouraged to grasp this unique opportunity as it will enrich their knowledge about EU institutional matters, and will serve them in good stead for the future,” said Ian Borg.
The call is open to undergraduate students who will be in their second year of studies in the academic year 2016/2017. Preference will be given to students who can demonstrate knowledge of the European Union and have a good command of the English language. Successful candidates will be given the required training and a remuneration package. Applications must be submitted by not later than 30th March 2016. More information can be found on the website of University of Malta.
