San Giljan claim derby to retain top spot with maximum points

San Giljan 8 Neptunes Grimaldi 5 (3-0), (2-4), (1-1), (2-0)

San Giljan ended top of the group in the Waterpolo Premier League with a comprehensive win over their neighbours and rivals Neptunes Grimaldi.

San Giljan won the first session 3-0 with goals from Dino Zammit and Aurelian Cousin with Neptunes missing a penalty through Niki Lanzon. The second session was a more entertaining affair with Neptunes making it 3-3 at one point through Niki Lanzon and Kyle Navarro. Cousin and Dino Zammit made it 3-2 but at the end of the session, Lanzon scored with a superb lob to make it 4-2 for Neptunes and 4-5 midway through the game.

The third session ended 1-1 with Benji Lanzon scoring for Neptunes and Cousin striking for San Giljan to set up an intriguing final session.

However San Giljna won the final session 2-0 with Dino Zammit and Cousin adding two more for an 8-5 victory and top placing in the group.

Ta Xbiex Amigos 5 Marsascala Nut. Emp. 14 (0-4), (0-2), (1-5), (4-3)

Marsascala Nutrition Empire easily disposed of Ta’ Xbiex Amigos in a one sided encounter. The first two sessions went 4-0 and 2-0 to Marsascala with goals coming from J C Cutajar, Duncan Cassar, Clyde Bonello and Duncan Mifsud.

The third session was another walk in the park for Marsascala who cruised to a 5-1 win. The goals came from Stephen Micallef, Bonello and Otis Zammit with Duncan Schembri scoring the only goal for Ta’ Xbiex. Ta’ Xbiex regained some pride in the fourth ession winning 4-3 with their goals coming from Schembri, Sean Aquilina and David Saliba for a final score of 14-5 in favour of the Southseasiders.
