VIBE concert at Verdala Palace – Baroque Music for Theatre

The Valletta International Baroque Ensemble (VIBE) will be performing a selection of baroque music written for the theatre at Verdala Palace on Friday 22 April 2016 at 8pm.

The programme includes Suite from Abdelezar by Henry Purcell, 'Oft she visits this lov'd mountain' from Dido and Aneas, 'Sweeter than Roses' from Pausanias, 'If love's a sweet passion' from The Fairy Queen, Fantasy upon a Ground for 3 violins and continuo, 'Strike the viol' from Come ye sons of Art, Suite from The Tempest Matthew Locke and 'From Rosy bow'rs' from Don Quixote Z578Henry Purcell (1659 - 1695).

The performers on the day include some of the top local baroque musicians including Catherine Martin (violin), Nadia Debono (violin), Sarah Spiteri (viola/violin), Jacob Portelli (cello), Eligio Quintero (theorbo), Joanne Camilleri (continuo) and soprano Gillian Zammit.

VIBE, which is managed by Teatru Manoel and is the resident ensemble of the Valletta International Baroque Festival is drawn from prominent Maltese instrumentalists who collaborate with and are coached by international Baroque specialists. It seeks to perform music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods in a historically informed way on original instruments.
