Anton Refalo broke the law, and hid crime for more than a month – PN

Gozo Minister Anton Refalo broke the law and hid the crime for more than a month, the Nationalist Party said in a statement.

Nobody can deny that Dr Refalo was involved in a traffic accident when driving his own car without a licence and insurance policy.

The minister hid the crime and the fact surrounding it for a month. If he had nothing to hide, he would not have kept it secret for a month, the PN said.

The PN also asked why the police were called and not the wardens, as usually happens when such accidents take place.

The least Dr Refalo should have done is shoulder political responsibility and resign as the former Nationalist mayor did last week, the PN said.

For his part, Anton Refalo said the PN want him to resign over a minor traffic accident and a traffic contravention.

In a statement, Dr Refalo said it is wrong to compare his case with that of former mayor Samuel Azzopardi, who he said was involved in a traffic accident while driving under the influence.

He called on the PN to keep a sense of proportion.
