The Animal Welfare Directorate’s animal ambulances have picked up over 5,000 injured or sick animals since 2013, information tabled in Parliament shows.

Replying to a parliamentary question by PN MP Anthony Bezzina, Minister Leo Brincat said animal ambulances picked up 1,525 animals in 2013, 1,340 in 2014 and 1,810 in 2015.

The AWD also picked up 477 animals between 1 January and 18 April 2016, for a combined total of 5,152.
