Monday, 2 May 2016, 16:18 Last update: about 9 years ago

During this scholastic year, Senior 2 girls attending Mater Boni Consilii St Joseph School Paola are also being introduced to the basics of 3D designing, with a special focus on 3D builder software. This exciting software is being provided to the school by Microsoft. These introductory sessions are being organised thanks to an agreement reached earlier this scholastic year between Dr Kenneth Vella, headmaster, Jurgen Calleja, director of ICT2BIZ and Keith Azzopardi and Edward Borg, directors of Thought3D. Recently, during a number of workshops, the Senior 2 girls had the opportunity to use the latest apps on 3D printing on the educational tablets which are also being provided to the school this year by Microsoft.

These workshops were coordinated by Cristina Mifsud, ICT teacher in collaboration with Messrs Calleja, Azzopardi and Borg. During the first workshops the students were introduced to the basics of 3D designing with a special focus on 3D builder software. It is scheduled, that over a number of workshops, the girls will design key chains using this software and then see them being printed.

"This initiative is the first one of its kind that has been conducted in a school and the enthusiasm and active participation of the girls was palpable during the workshop," commented Mr Calleja. Dr Vella took the opportunity to thank Microsoft, ICT2BIZ and Tought3D for choosing Mater Boni Consilii St Joseph School Paola to take such an initiative.

"These workshops are not only helping our girls to be more aware of the benefits of 3D printing but are also serving as another opportunity during which educational tablets, which have been provided to the school by Microsoft, are being used as an asset to help our girls understand better new concepts during their IT lessons," Dr Vella added.
