The Marigold Foundation together with the Ministry for Health and the Ministry for Family presented a portable X-ray machine for the Medical Imaging Department.

The machine is used during biopsies and it helps establish if the sample is good to identify breast cancer. The machine was bought by the money raised by Marigold Foundation following a very successful Pink October campaign. Last October, the foundation managed to raise some €90,000.

The machine was presented during a press conference at Mater Dei by Mrs. Michelle Muscat, Minister for Health Chris Fearne and by Social Solidarity Minister Michael Farrugia.

Mrs. Muscat said that this day was chosen symbolically as mother’s day will be celebrated this weekend. The machine will help breast cancer treatment be more effective and specific.

Minister Fearne said that some 300 cases of breast cancer are reported each year in Malta.

The machine cost €70,000.
