The trailer of Assassin’s Creed, a movie based on the hugely popular game franchise of the same name, has been released by 20th Century Fox.

Maltese fans of the game were thrilled to learn last year that the movie, starring Michael Fassbender, Marion Cottilard and Jeremy Irons, was to be filmed in Malta.

Several locations, including Valletta and Floriana, are in fact easily distinguishable in the trailer.

The movie is based on Callum Lynch, a death row convict who is snatched by a secret Templar agency to extract memories of his Assassin ancestor, Aguilar, from the times of the Spanish Inquisition.

The 39-year old German-Irish Fassbender, is well known for his roles in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, as well as playing Magneto in the X-Men series.

Assassin’s Creed is set to be released on 21 December.
