IIP applicants spent €25 million in property, opened 27 new companies in Malta

Up until 30 April of 2016, 143 individuals participating in the Individual Investors Programme, have completed their application successfully.

Replying to a parliamentary question by Shadow Minister for the Economy Claudio Grech, Minister for Justice Owen Bonnici said that 116 applicants have rented properties in Malta with a total investment of €12.2 million over a period of 5 years. The applicants also spent more than €25 million in property acquisitions in Malta.

“This will have a positive impact on our economy,” the Minister said.

23 applicants of the IIP have set up companies in Malta. The total number of companies set up amounts to 27. This figure was provided by Identity Malta, and Minister Owen Bonnici said that there might have been other companies which the agency is not informed of.

Minister Bonnici explaind that ever since the Individual Investors Programme started, the applicants gave 68 donations to various philantropic and non-governmental organisations. The donations amount to €719,000.

Since its introduction in 2014, there were 1,208 who applied who applied for residency in Malta. 667 have applied for citezenship and some 320 applications are still being evaluated.
