New Delimara power station facing yet another delay

Monday, 23 May 2016, 07:51 Last update: about 9 years ago

The power station promised to be ready by March 2015 – and still not yet operational – faces yet another delay as the LNG gas tanker will not be available at least before October, other media reports today.

The Labour government had promised to build a gas-fired power station within two years of taking office, but March 2015 came and went with no sign of the plant.

The government had then changed the deadline to June 2016, but one month before this new target arrives, it is unlikely that the Labour government will manage to fulfil its promise.

The Labour Party, then in Opposition, had built its electoral campaign on the new power station, making believe that such a project was possible within two years. The Nationalist Party had described this as an Alice in Wonderland project, and the PN’s thoughts have been confirmed more than once, since the government was unable to deliver the project within two years and, 15 months further down the line, the power station is still not operational.
