Monday, 23 May 2016, 14:42 Last update: about 9 years ago

BirdLife Malta's nature reserves are open for the last two weekends this month, so make sure you pay a visit before they close for summer.

Today and next weekend - 28 and 29 May - are the last days on which BirdLife's nature reserves will be open to the public before they close for the summer season.

BirdLife will be celebrating with some special family activities which will be on at both reserves (Simar, San Pawl il-Baħar and Għadira) on the last weekend.

All the activities during these Open Days are free of charge but due to limited space, booking for these sessions should be done in advance.

The activities will be held at Għadira Nature Reserve on Saturday, 28 May and at Simar Nature Reserve on Sunday, 29 May between 10am and 4pm.

Those who book will have the opportunity to take part in a 90-minute guided tour which will include nature activities for kids and exploration within the reserves.

Activity timings are:

  • Session 1 - 10-11:30 Session 2 - 11:30 - 13:00 Session 3 - 13:00 - 14:30 Session 4 - 14:30 - 16:00

Bookings can be done by email to [email protected] and should include name and contact number, which session you would like to attend, the number of people in the group, number of children and their age. For those who would just like to come to visit, on both days during the last weekend, both reserves will be open for the public, not just for those who have booked the events.

Besides nature-related activities for kids, this is also a good time to see baby birds with little chicks around the reserves which people can try to spot. Visitors will be able to see Moorhens, Little Ringed Plovers and the Black-Winged Stilts.
