LGBTI group to hold vigil in St Julians in the wake of Orlando gay club shooting

Drachma (Drachma LGBTI and Drachma Parents’ Group) said today that it will be hosting a vigil to honour the lives of those who were brutally killed in the Orlando gay nightclub shooting on Sunday.

“On Friday 17th June, our candle-lit vigil will serve as a show of strength and love, in the face of such a horrific act against the LGBTIQ+ community.  However, this attack goes even beyond that, so we will stand united: #MaltaForOrlando,” the group said.

“It may feel like there is not much we can do to help our brothers and sisters who have fallen victim to such an act of hate. But showing a strong, united community is a good place to start.

We will gather near Balluta Parish Church at 7.30 p.m. and with candles in hand, symbolically ‘walk towards LOVE’.  Drachma invites civil and religious authorities, NGOs and the general public to join us in this solidarity walk which will come to a close at the LOVE monument, St Julians. U.S. Ambassador G. Kathleen Hill will be attending the vigil.

The public is invited to support and show solidarity with the victims and their families.”
