Sexual frustration has resulted in an Eritrean man being arraigned in court this morning – after he was rejected by a prostitute and consequently damaging two vehicles and a motorcycle.
The 25-year-old, named Beyene Fessahatsion Weldeabzghi, was also found to be in possession of a substance thought to be marijuana.
Mr Weldeabzghi’s frustration, it is understood, came after a prostitute in Gzira had taken €35 off the accused but never delivered the services promised.
The court heard how the accused had been drinking from 11am, while the incident with the prostitute took place at roughly 2.15am in the morning – meaning he had been consuming alcohol for 15 hours.
After being rejected by the prostitute, the accused – in a drunken range – proceeded to damage two mirrors from two parked cars and a handle of a motorcycle. It is believed that he was carrying roughly 0.4grams of marijuana, and has been accused of drunk and disorderly behaviour in public.
He pleaded guilty to all charges, however the court adjourned the case pending an assessment of the precise amount of damages caused to the vehicles.
Magistrate Doreen Clarke, presiding over the case, accepted the request for bail put forward by Legal aid lawyer Patrick Valentino. He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000. Inspector Lara Butters prosecuted. Judgment will be delivered on 20 July.
