A Hungarian teenager is missing after he jumped into the rough sea at Marsalforn yesterday evening.
The 17-year-old had come to Malta on holiday with his family.
The Armed Forces of Malta have been conducting a search using their helicopters since yesterday but have so far not found any signs of the man. The police and the Civil Protection Department are also involved in the search.
In the meantime the Malta Red Cross is warning the public against swimming in certain beaches which are being hit by large waves and heavy currents.
These are Golden Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha, Fond Ghadir in Sliema and the perched beach in Bugibba.
“In fact they will be marked with a DOUBLE RED FLAG. This means that it is not safe for swimming and the lifeguards are not obliged to enter the water. Don't risk your lives and ours!” the Red Cross said.
