FAA appeals to ‘all who love Malta’ to help stop the tower-building frenzy

Tuesday, 6 September 2016, 11:50 Last update: about 10 years ago

The frenzy for building monstrous towers continues apace threatening to affect every aspect of our way of life, and with 22 towers in the pipeline, all of Malta will be affected, Flimkien ghall Ambjent Ahjar warns in a fresh appeal to the public to help in the fight against the “Planning Authority’s decision to allow the construction of high-rise towers where they will cause inconvenience and hardship to all who love Malta”.

In its appeal, FAA states, “Our congested streets will be turned into canyons trapping pollution which contributes to asthma, cancer, heart disease and strokes. Our pjazzas will be darkened by cold shadows and our iconic heritage skylines lost forever. These buildings will put further strain on our crumbling infrastructure, especially as they are being built without all the necessary studies being made and with the public deprived of its legal right to voice its opinion.”

FAA is standing up to what it describes as a “depredation and an attack on the very heart of our society and on our quality of life”.

The NGO has brought together other NGOs – the Ramblers Association, Friends of the Earth and Din l-Art Helwa – as well as concerned residents to take all legal and other action necessary “to stop this assault”.

FAA explains how, “We will be appealing against the Planning Authority’s decision to allow the construction of high-rise towers where they will cause inconvenience and hardship to all who love Malta. We will set up an information campaign about these travesties of urban planning. We will raise the issue in every forum, before every board, to every entity. We will not give in.”

The NGO is appealing to the public to “stand shoulder to shoulder with us and help us stop the rot. Spread the word and donate to our fund. We stand together. Together we will prevail.”

The FAA urges the public to “stand up for your health and quality of life” by making a donation toward the cause, which can be done by:
