The number of trips made by Gozo Channel in the first 11 days of September increased to 784 from 726, meaning 58 extra trips or an 8% increase, the compan y said in a statement. This had led to less waiting time to board the ferries and for Gozo Channel to meet the increased demand.
Passenger numbers have gone up from 183,754 to 201,689, meaning that during the period 17,935 more persons made use of the inter-island ferry service, a 9.8% increase. The number of vehicles has also increased from 51,398 to 56,623, signifying an increase of 5,225 vehicles, translating into a 10.2% increase.
The Minister for Gozo, Anton Refalo, underlined the fact that September is usually a month when the number of visitors starts to slow down; however, the increase in the first days of September has shown that Gozo is able to continue to attract visitors, particularly because it can offer all year round activities which entice different types of tourists. Many towns and villages are organizing activities to keep alive certain traditions and to commemorate historical events.
The Minister said that he hopes Gozo can continue to offer the discerning tourist a place to relax, enjoy its culture, participate in activities being organized and to find it worthwhile to make return visits.
