SDM calls for revamp of exams system as resit students get results at the very last minute

Monday, 26 September 2016, 13:37 Last update: about 9 years ago

Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM) has called for a revamp of the A and O level result publication system and for deadlines to be put in place. The student group complained again that students have been left in the dark until the very last minute and have only received their results as the new scholastic year is beginning.

“SDM notes that MATSEC has today finally published Ordinary Level September Session examination results. SDM would like to express its concern regarding the yearly delay to publish such results, giving consideration that in some cases, a number of educational institutions have already started their new scholastic year or will do so in the coming days.

A number of students have contacted SDM expressing their anger at this current situation whereby students have been left in the dark regarding their educational future with just a few days left until the start of the scholastic year. We believe that the current system is not working in favour of the students’ best interests and thus needs a major overhaul. During the past 4 years SDM has always pressured MATSEC to immediately publish students’ results, especially with regards to Supplementary Examinations Sessions in September. One must keep in mind that while the academic year at the University of Malta starts today, G.F. Abela Junior College starts its scholastic year next week, Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary’s registration days start tomorrow, and MCAST Freshers’ Week starts this Wednesday.

SDM calls on MATSEC to not only publish examination results without further delay, but also work on revamping its system of result publication when it comes to strict deadlines for results publication and increasing communication efforts with examination candidates.”
