Wooden boards have been put up around the ground floor of the Surfside restaurant in Sliema after a photo emerged yesterday of workers chipping away at the columns that support the balcony above while unsuspecting diners enjoyed their meals al fresco.
Photos sent to The Malta Independent this evening show that the entire ground floor has been boarded up.

The top photo shows how the extent of the work carried out on the concrete pillars, with the metal skeleton showing.
Other photos show how the construction waste has been collected in two skips on the rocks. One reader said that another storm like last night’s would likely wash everything into the sea.
This newspaper has sent questions to the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA).
