A Sicilian man yesterday was arrested by the Italian police after 25 kilogrammes of cannabis was discovered in a vehicle which he was bringing over to Malta via catamaran, Italian media report.

The 55-year-old was stopped by the police as he was waiting to embark on the vessel. In the car, the police found the drug hidden in a false bottom beneath the seats, underneath the car doors upholstery and in the spare tyre.

He was arrested and the car with all its contents was seized by the police.
