Over the last few hours, RCC Malta has coordinated a rescue operation off a migrant vessel within Malta's Search and Rescue region.

RCC Malta requested the assistance of a FRONTEX vessel which was in the vicinity. OPV Fastnet Sentinel requested a MEDEVAC of two migrants who needed urgent medical attention. The AFM's AW139 helicopter was immediately dispatched to the area to bring the two migrants to Malta. They have been transferred to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance early this morning.

The vessel was intercepted 56nm SSE of Lampedusa. Seven corpses have also been found on the said vessel.
