‘Small’ blaze at Delimara gas power station extinguished in minutes, says ElectroGas

Pictures uploaded to Facebook show smoke rising above the LNG power station and tanker in Delimara yesterday.

The incident, which took place yesterday morning, was acknowledged by ElectroGas, the owner of the gas-fired power station.

“Today at approximately 11:55am some insulation material and cardboard caught fire in an isolated area on the ElectroGas compound,” the company said.

“The incident, which was related to some final works, was not in an operational area of the plant and was detected early by the control room and security staff. The installed firefighting equipment was able to extinguish the fire in a matter of minutes. Police units attended and a fire brigade was called to site as a protective measure.”

The police and the Civil Protection Department made no reference to the Delimara case.
