Malta Historical Society and Notarial Archives Resource Council unite to safeguard paper heritage

Monday, 5 December 2016, 15:48 Last update: about 8 years ago

The Malta Historical Society has teamed up with the Notarial Archives Resource Council to continue preserving the nation's paper heritage. The donation was made during one of the Malta Historical Society's lectures, during which the society donated the sum of €1,500. This donation will be directed towards the conservation of three Corsair documents at the Notarial Archives.

These contain interesting features such as daily travel logs of various corsair expeditions, Turkish documents and the highly prized signatures of historical figures like the same Guglielmo Lorenzi who, together with Dun Mikiel Xerri, was executed by the French on 17 January 1799. Other lists shed light on the type of food taken on board and on ships' armaments such as cannoni, trombone a cavalletto, trombone a mano, pistole and bandoliere.

This sponsorship is of great significance to the Notarial Archives Resource Council since this time it is another non-governmental organisation, itself dependent on the private sector for funding, which is supporting the Notarial Archives. The initiative of the Malta Historical Society, which is exemplary for other organisations and companies, makes the society an active contributor to the preservation of our paper heritage.
