MP Franco Mercieca criticized a “hate blogger who invents lies and stories about the health of a politically exposed individual”.

In his adjournment in Parliament this evening, Dr Mercieca was making reference to blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia, who recently published a number of articles on her blog speculating on the health of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s Chief of Staff Keith Schembri.

In his statement he said that “hate bloggers are insecure people” who have “problems with themselves and project this negativity onto others”

Dr Mercieca also questioned why other bloggers such as the one run by government-aide Glenn Bedingfield  are criticized were by Archbiship Scicluna when others were not.

Dr Mercieca also called on Parliament to recognise that character assinations from bloggers could also be detrimental to the lives of the individuals.

Archbishop Scicluna replied to Dr Mercieca using his twitter account, making reference to a homily he delivered for the feast of St Julian's last August, in which he condemned "all bloggers who the internet to instigate the Maltese against each other, by muck-raking and insulting and humiliating each other".
