Designation of ‘MMAP’ to Council members of the Malta Association of Physiotherapists

The Malta Association of Physiotherapists (MAP) held its Annual General Meeting on the 2nd November at the Malta Federation of Professional Associations premises in Msida.

The proceedings were opened by Ms. Victoria Massalha, MAP President who appointed Dr. John Xerri de Caro, board member of the European Region of the World Confederation of Physiotherapists (ER-WCPT) and the World Confederation of Physiotherapists (WCPT) to act as Presiding Officer.Reports of the Association's work and achievements in 2016 were presented and election of the MAP Committee also took place.

The MAP committee will continue to be composed of Ms. Victoria Massalha as President, Mr. Karl Spiteri as Senior Vice President Mr. Matthew Camilleri as Vice President and Mr. Daniel Casingena as Treasurer who were reelected for a second term as Executive Board.The Administration and Operations Division will be run by Ms. Audrey Schembri as the new CEO and made up of Ms. Michela Catania as Communications Co-ordinator with Ms. Edwina Vella and Ms. Francesca Farrugia as CPD Co-ordinators, Ms. Karen Ryan as Public Relations Co-ordinator and Ms. Mattea Galea as EU Funding Co-ordinator.

Two extremely important motions were also adopted during the AGM. The first motion will allow all MAP members to add the designatory letters 'MMAP' (Member of the Malta Association of Physiotherapists) to their professional titles which will act as a quality benchmark to assist the general public in making an informed choice when requiring physiotherapy.

The second motion will allow all MAP members including students to access Physiopedia Plus, a continued professional development platform. This highlights MAP's commitment to its members to continue to provide them with opportunities to enhance and improve their professional skill-set. This collaboration with Physiopedia Plus was facilitated through the efforts of the ER-WCPT.Victoria Massalha, President of the Malta Association of Physiotherapists views these changes as positive initiatives, aimed towards furthering awareness of physiotherapy and ensuring the continued improvement of the level of physiotherapy locally.

The Malta Association of Physiotherapists reiterates its commitment to maintain the highest standards of physiotherapy, promote the profession at both national and international level and to liaise in an advisory capacity with Health Authorities, Professional Bodies and Voluntary Organizations.
