The Nationalist Party today said that Parliament's approval on the second reading of the law regarding standards in public life is a positive step forward. The statement says that it was the PN Leader Simon Busuttil who, back in 2013, called for the setting up of a Commissioner for Standards.

Despite expressing its approval, the Nationalist Party pointed out that this is a government of double standards. In the statement, the Nationalist opposition lists the number of scandals which show how "Joseph Muscat and his government reduced the standards in politics."

The PN published a whole list of scandals related to the government.

-         The setting up of offshore accounts in Panama by Minister Konrad Mizzi and Chief of Staff Keith Schembri.

-         The Prime Minister's direct involvement in the Café Premier Deal of €4.2 million.

-         Evarist Bartolo's alleged hiding of a corruption case which involves one of his canvassers.

-         Minister Joe Mizzi's visit to Spain before Autobuses De Leon was handed the public transportation tender

-         Minister Chris Cardona's spending of €756 on alcohol while in Dubai

-         Minister Bonnici's breach of the constitution in choosing members of the judiciary

-         Minister Fearne's declaration that ITU patients were given out-dated medicine

-         Konrad Mizzi and Chris Fearne selling three hospitals to individuals with no experience and is facing fraud allegations in Canada

"All of these serve as an example of Joseph Muscat's double standards," the PN concluded.
