Finance Minister Edward Scicluna presented trophies to the jockeys and owners of winning horses during the first edition of the Twanny Bugeja Equestrian Festival which was held yesterday at the Marsa Racecourse.

The festival, organised by the Malta Racing Club with the support of the Ministry for Finance through the National Lotteries Good Causes Fund, was held to honour the memory of the late sports journalist Twanny Bugeja, who was a fixture of local horse racing for over 37 years. During his career Mr Bugeja was well-renowned as the voice of the sport thanks to his well-researched and passionate commentaries of horse races. Furthermore, he also served as general secretary of the Malta Racing Club, a position he held at the time of his demise two years ago.

Besides presenting the trophies to the winners of the 15 races held during the festival, Minister Scicluna also presented a commemorative plaque to Mrs Bugeja and her family.
