Two persons were injured after a van and a car were involved in a collision on the Mellieha by-pass, also known as Louis Wettinger Street.

The accident involved a Peugeot 206 driven by a 79-year-old man of Qala, who had a 72-year-old woman passenger with him, and a Kia Ceres van driven by a 34-year-old of Qormi.

The woman passenger and the van driver were taken to hospital for treatment. Their condition is unknown.

The 79-year-old driver was unhurt.

With the impact, the van ended up surmounting the pavement and a ledge at the perimeter of the road.
