FOR.U.M. Unions Maltin today wrote to the Minister for Tourism as it is concerned about the lack of consultation being held with three of its affiliates members: the Association of Airline Engineers Malta (AAE), the Airline Pilots Association – Malta (ALPA) and the Union of Cabin Crew- Malta (UCC). FOR.U.M. stated that during the past week, there were a number of reports in the local media about the failure of Air Malta to reach an agreement with Alitalia as a potential strategic partner.

The FOR.U.M. noted that unfortunately the restructuring initiative of Air Malta and the results of discussions on a potential strategic partnership are being kept behind closed doors. This situation is creating uncertainty and unnecessary anxiety amongst employees that are concerned about their future prospects with Air Malta.

In this light, FOR.U.M. asked the Government on behalf of its affiliates to provide any information that can impinge on AirMalta employees and the airline’s future, and that such information should be made immediately available and discussed with the Unions. It stated that it is imperative that immediate action is taken by the Government in order not to put at risk any jobs with the airline. FOR.U.M., on behalf of its affiliates, also requested an urgent meeting with the Minister for Tourism to seek clarifications on the future of Air Malta’s employees.
