Wednesday, 18 January 2017, 20:19 Last update: about 8 years ago

MEP Therese Comodini Cachia has been elected vice-coordinator of the EPP Group for the Committee on Legal Affairs at the European Parliament. Commenting following her election, Dr Comodini Cachia said “I am humbled to be elected to this position. I will continue to work closely with all my colleagues to address our citizen’s concerns. And I will continue to listen to stakeholders to ensure policies adopted at EU level reflect aspirations of our citizens.” The elections took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday evening.

Political groups appoint coordinators and vice-coordinators in every committee to act as the group's main spokespersons in that committee and together with the coordinators from other political groups prepare decisions to be taken by the committee, especially on the procedure and the appointment of rapporteurs. They can also mobilise group members during important votes and can appoint shadow rapporteurs.

MEP Comodini Cachia is an active member of the Committee on Legal Affairs, she had recently served as EPP Group rapporteur on Robotics and on several files related to the digital single market. She is currently Rapporteur on the much expected copyright reform. This week MEP Comodini Cachia also met European Commission Vice-President Andrus Ansip to further discuss the reform.

Comodini Cachia will be holding a consultation meeting on the reform with all stakeholders in Malta including publishers, authors, journalists, musicians, singers, actors and photographers. The workshop will take place on 6th and 7th February. Stakeholders can register at www.comodinicachia.eu.
