Christian Maldini, son of Italian football legend Paolo Maldini, has left Hamrun Spartans to join Italian Serie D side Pro Sesto, the Gazzetta dello Sport reports.

Christian, aged 20, joined Hamrun at the end of the last transfer market in August but has made little impact on the side, and was often not included in the line-up with the Maltese Premier League side.

The Gazzetta reports that he has now left Malta to play for a team in the Lombardy region, close to where his family lives, and in a club which has as its president Gabriele Albertini, brother to the more famous Demetrio who played alongside Paolo Maldini at Milan.

The choice of Pro Sesto is the best for Christian, Paolo Maldini told the Gazzetta.

Christian was on loan to Hamrun from Reggiana, but has now been fully bought by Pro Sesto and has signed a six-month contract with the new club.

Paolo and Christian yesterday attended the Pro Sesto match in Italy, and the youngster started his training sessions with the new club today.

A few weeks ago, Paolo Maldini had defended his son in the wake of reports he was to join Lecco.
