Police complain about delays of payments for extra duties

Monday, 30 January 2017, 08:17 Last update: about 8 years ago

The Malta Police Association said that several officers are complaining that it is taking too long for them to be paid for extra duties they give to third parties

In a statement, the MPA said that when an officer carries out extra duty he or she is not paid until the third party involved pays for the services directly to the police corps. Two examples of this are the Tourism Police services and work carried out for the Malta Football Association.

The MPA said that tourism police services have not been paid for six months (the last time was July), while the officers have not been paid for services provided to the MFA for eight months (last time was May).

This situation is shameful and unacceptable, the association said, adding that its appeals to rectify the situation have fallen on deaf ears.

The MPA said that overtime for police officers have also been curbed.

The association said that the police corps should pay for this services and then chase the third parties for its dues.
