Thursday, 2 February 2017, 10:33 Last update: about 8 years ago
Three new medicines designed for oncology patients will be introduced over the coming weeks at Mater Dei, Minister for Health Chris Fearne has announced.

The three medicines will allow the Sir Anthony Mamo Centre to cater for an additional 500 patients annually.

Capecitabine 100mg was introduced today and the other two , Mitomycine 300mg and Doxcrubicin 70mg will be introduced next week.

Mr Fearne went on to say that the plan is to continue to add new medicines over the years, in order to maintain an up to date medical sector.

It was important that the oncology centre employed a  multidisciplinary approach to oncology treatment by combining expertise in both medicine and rehabilitation with state of the art equipment and medication, the minister said.

The minister then said “this was all possible after the budget allocated to health was increased last year, which is a result of an economy that is doing well”.
