The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure said that the remains of an ancient wall which once formed part of the fortifications in Valletta have been discovered during the excavations.
In a statement, the Ministry said that the wall was found on the site of the former public latrine.
It appears the discovery was made following excavations for the building of a new plant room in preparation for the Tritons Fountain restoration process.
The Superintendence for National Heritage will be carrying out further archaeological investigations while the Ministry will be making sure to protect the site while keeping it accessible.
