Following the Prime Minister's comments at a Gvern Li Jisma conference, the Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) is calling on Dr Muscat to act and further plans to construct a Motorsport race circuit in Malta, MMF President Tonio Cini told a press conference outside Castille.
In February 2016, the government issued a call for the expression of interest for the construction of a race track which yielded five interested companies. However, Mr Cini claims, no one has heard of any developments since.
"There has been absolute silence," he said.
"The call was extremely successful as the companies that expressed their interest are internationally renowned and have built some of the best tracks in America, Qatar, and Russia"
"One of the companies has the Renzo Piano of racetracks'
He did lament that should the government fail to act on the current interest, they will miss out on a great opportunity.
For Mr Cini, the track will not only function as a safe space for Motorsport enthusiasts to practice their craft but will also act as an attraction for an alternative type of tourism which the country is yet to tap into.
He went on to say that the following the EU presidency and v18, it is essential that the country looks at new forms of tourism to maintain the improvements the country has seen in the sector.
He says that the track would generate a lot towards to the Maltese economy.
The facilities, he said, will also include space for learners of both motorbikes and motor vehicles. This, Mr Cini claims, will help combat the spike in road accidents and fatalities the country has seen over the last couple of years.
