A man was seriously injured this morning as he tried to control a fire that developed in a car, the police said.

The accident happened in Triq il-Fatati, Hamrun, at 12.30am.

The 30-year-old man of Santa Venera tried to put out a fire that developed in a BMW X5. The fire was later controlled by members of the Civil protection Department.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja is holding an inquiry.
