Former magistrate and PN MP Joseph Cassar died today, aged 70.
Born in Tarxien, Dr Cassar studied at the Lyceum and the University of Malta and graduated as a lawyer in 1970.
He contested the elections for the Nationalist Party for the first time in 1971, and was elected for the first time in 1981. He served as spokesman for housing between 1981 and 1987 and was appointed parliamentary secretary for housing between 1987 and 1992 and for human resources between 1992 and 1996.
In December 1998 he was sworn in as magistrate, and served till 2007.
He was married to Mary Cardona and had two children.
