Enjoy the Great Spring Horticultural and Flower Arrangements Show at San Anton.

Organised by the Malta Horticultural Society, the Great Spring Horticultural and Flower Arrangements Show is being held on Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 May at the historic San Anton Gardens and Palace grounds, Attard.

The numerous artistic flower arrangements, composed on defined themes and mounted by several club members and students of the Nadine and Glorian Micallef-Grimaud Florist School, Connie Scerri Florist School and Maria Cordina Florist School are always one of the main attractions of the show. The climax in the flower arranging section, however, are the special arrangements created for the occasion by guest artists of international fame, Rossella Biasiol and Erman Soranzio from Italy.

Ms Basiol and Mr Soranzio's creation will be gracing the Russian Chapel at the Presidential Palace. Ms Basiol and Mr Soranzio will also give a practical demonstration of flower arranging on Wednesday at 6pm at the hall of Seashells Resort at Suncrest, Qawra. Entrance is free.

Other exhibits include locally grow vegetables, fruit, cut flowers and house plants.

A section is reserved for schools and students - here exhibits will include models of gardens, farmhouses, window boxes, baskets of flowers and other creations.

Demonstrations of beekeeping, fruit tree grafting and various crafts, set in garden paths bordering beds of colourful, flowering annuals and scented citrus trees, should meet the interest of visitors. An entertainment programme will complement the show and will include shows by dancing colleges and schools, an accordion band, a folk band, a village brass band and boy scouts with pipes and drums. The garden will be lit up in the evening, while a catering service will also be available.

On Saturday, 5 May at 5pm there will be the official opening by Dr Josè Herrera, Minister for Sustainable Development, The Environment and Climate Change and on Sunday, 7th at 7pm the presentation of prizes by H. E. Dr Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta, assisted by Roderick Galdes, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights.

The show is open on Saturday from 2 to 10pm and on Sunday from 8am till 9pm. Entrance fee €2 for adults; accompanied children under 12 enter for free.
