Prime Minister Joseph Muscat was continuously prompted by his spokesperson Kurt Farrugia (above, right) via text message during the Leaders Debate at the University of Malta, Partit Demokratiku Deputy Leader Anthony Buttigieg has claimed.
In a post on social media, Dr Buttigieg (below) said:
“It's not often that you know what a prime minister is going to say in a debate before he says it, but yesterday I was at the university and had the dubious pleasure of sitting next to Kurt Farrugia.
“He was texting away as though his life depended upon it. Initially I thought it rather discourteous to do that when your boss is speaking in public, then I realised what was happening....he was prompting Joseph Muscat, and telling him what to say....”
During the debate, Dr Muscat told Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Prof. Cassola that he “looked like Franco Debono” after he answered his phone.
In response, the AD leader said, “I used it once, you have been using it throughout all of the debate, reading texts from Kurt Farrugia.”
