Former employee files judicial protest against AUM; claims rights were violated

The former deputy project manager at the American University of Malta, has claimed that the company violated his fundamental rights when it suspended him in a judicial protest filed today.

Italian nation Eduardo Pagani is claiming that incorrect accusations led to his suspension.

Mr Pagani began working for AUM in August 2016. The initial six month contract was later extended till August 2017.

The contract stipulated that Mr Pagani could not be terminated till the contract's expiration.

However, in April 2017, Mr Pagani received a notice of warning, and a suspension of work notice.

This came after Jordanian Raied Ebaid became the project manager.

The company accused Mr Pagani of approving the payment for a steel mesh reinforcement before the actual laying of the concrete, and of incorrectly certifying  pillars for the AUM Cospicua campus.

Mr Pagani claims that the accusations were false and were created to remove him. He said that he followed internal protocol when he confirmed receipt of an Interim Payment Bill duly drawn up by the architects in charge of the project.

He said that he performed his duties with the "utmost loyalty."

The judicial protest was signed by Lawyer Michael Tanti-Dougall
