Malta's up and coming singer Destiny Chukunyere, who last week wowed judges during the talent audition stage of Britain's Got Talent, told this newspaper yesterday that the thought of performing before judge Simon Cowell at first scared her.

The 14-year old Junior Eurovsion singer's audition footage has already reached over half a million views in less than a week. Many contestants are scared of Mr Cowell, who is known for his frank and often scathing reviews, but Destiny had nothing to fear by the end of her performance as the judge told her that "we've been waiting for someone who could be a star, and guess who it is ... it's you!"

Destiny disclosed to The Malta Independent that this whole experience has been "an amazing journey, I have been waiting for something like this my whole life". We asked about her reaction to Simon Cowell's comment in which she revealed that "it wasn't till I watched my performance back and processed what he said, that I realised he did actually like my performance".

Indeed, she had always had at the back of her mind that maybe one day she would have the opportunity to audition for something as monumental as Britain's got Talent, but in fact the decision wasn't hers.

"I didn't actually apply myself for the show, my manager, Gordon, did. In fact, when he called me to tell me he had applied for me, I was so surprised and overwhelmed with happiness that I burst into tears."

Reality hit soon after and the thought of what Destiny was about to embark began to sink in. "The thought of being in front of Simon Cowell and having to perform in front of him was scary," stated Destiny, "but really I was super excited to have the opportunity."

Destiny's audition was broadcasted on ITV to millions of viewers but the process to even reach the first stage of auditioning in front of the judges isn't that simple. "Auditions began in August and I had to audition four times before I could perform in front of the judges." However, performing on the show was truly an experience for Destiny. "The moment I stepped on stage, there are really no words to describe the feeling."

The judges' comments were truly impressive, with David Walliams stating that Destiny "was born to sing" and Alesha Dixon claiming her performance was a "knock-out" and that she had "killed it."

However, Destiny did receive some comments and questions regarding her participation in the Junior Eurovision and whether it was completely fair to be competing in Britain's Got Talent. "I try best in everything I do and I will do anything to reach my goal, every step of the way. I entered this competition because I want to improve in my career," Destiny explained.

"Some fans messaged me, asking did Eurovision help you? Yes, of course Eurovision helped me. I started becoming known from Eurovision and in fact the stage at Eurovision was much bigger than the stage at Britain's got Talent, so yes it helped me with the experience."

Yet, what lies beneath this talent? Destiny admits that in fact when it comes to meeting people for the first time she' a "really shy" person. "I tend to be quite shy when giving interviews, so music really is an outlet for me where I can be confident." Destiny continues to share that "school and singing are both as important as each other for me" and that singing is not the only dream she has but she also claims that she'd "like to be a teacher and work with children."

When asked about how she is juggling school and singing, Destiny replied: "I have really great friends who support me. But yes of course I have homework and I tend to do it on the plane to London but I'm lucky to have such great friends who keep my notes and keep me updated on school work."

The feedback from Malta and the rest of the world, who tuned in to Britain's Got Talent, has been nothing but positive and Destiny has already shared on Good morning Britain that her favourite call has been from the President of Malta, who congratulated her on her performance.

"Lots of people got in touch including the President but also other singers like Christabelle and even Ben Camille, messaged me to congratulate me."

When asked about the future and possibilities of dream collaborations with other artists, Destiny revealed: "I love Beyoncé, Aretha Franklin and Justin Bieber and I would love to collaborate with all of them, if I ever had the chance." She continued to share that in the future she would also love to have an album and even a personal tour.

Whether, Destiny has made it through to the BGT's semi-finals or not will be revealed tonight. Many have asked whether Destiny has any British relatives, which she does not, but people of all nationalities can apply to take part in Britain's got Talent.

Destiny expressed her gratitude towards the Maltese people: "I really would love to thank all the Maltese and Gozitans for their love and support."

The Malta Independent wishes Destiny every success and good luck in the rest of the competition.
