Updated (4): 15 school-children hospitalised as minibus crashes into wall, 13 discharged

15 school girls and a driver were hospitalised this afternoon after the minubus they were travelling in was involved in a crash in Burmarrad. 

13 of the children and the driver were discharged and two were kept in hospital with minor injuries, Health Minister Chris Fearne tweeted a few minutes ago. 

The accident happened at around 2.30pm in Burmarrad Road.

The driver of the minibus lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a wall.The police confirmed that a collision had taken place between the van, which was being driven by a 63-year-old man from Mgarr and a Toyota Avensis that was being driven by a 24-year-old man from Qormi.

The police said the girls were aged between 5 and 15. According to the statement two 7-year-old girls suffered grievous injuries while the rest suffered slight injuries. 

The students all attend the Santa Monica School in Birkirkara.

The road was temporarily closed to traffic.
