Betsson CEO Ulrik Bengtsson confirmed today that the online betting company, Betsson, has no plans for relocation. The company currently employs some 1,000 people, making it the largest betting company in Malta.

Mr Bengtsson was giving comments to journalists following a visit by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

Earlier during the election campaign, while speaking in a mass meeting in Gozo, Prime Minister brushed off claims made by the Leader of the Opposition that major betting companies in Malta will leave the island to set up shop somewhere else. He had said that on his first day back in office, he would visit this large online betting company and have a nice cup of coffee with them. And that is exactly what he did. As he entered, he looked at Mr Bengtsson and told him "shall we have a coffee?"

Prime Minister Muscat also announced that two 'world leaders' in the gaming industry applied to operate from Malta.

Dr Muscat did not want to divulge details on government appointments, telling journalists he will make the announcement later.
