‘What was once a political controversy is now an act of charity,’ – PM Joseph Muscat

Wednesday, 21 June 2017, 13:09 Last update: about 8 years ago

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat this morning presented President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca with a €35,000 donation in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, which was raised by auctioning off his car.

"What was once a political controversy is now an act of charity," said Muscat, addressing the press at the President's Palace, Valletta.

In his previous legislature, Muscat chose to drive his own car, an Alfa Romeo, rather than the Government Car.  The Prime Minister will be using a government car throughout this new legislature.

Dr Muscat had hired his own personal car in the previous legislature for €36,000 for five years. This was criticised by the Nationalist Party throughout the electoral campaign.

Members of the Labour Party administration were also present at this morning's event.
